Crypto’s Institutional Growth Could Make It Less Decentralised
More financial institutions are entering crypto through custody, stablecoins and tokenised assets. That can bring capital, credibility and better infrastructure to the industry. However, there is a trade-off if a growing share of activity depends on a small number of banks, custodians and regulated intermediaries. Crypto was partly built around reducing dependence on central authorities, yet its path to mainstream adoption increasingly involves them. I do not think institutional involvement is inherently bad, but the industry should be honest about what it gains and what it gives up. Can crypto become mainstream without sacrificing too much decentralisation?
