Try another good-quality USB-C cable as well. Mine was doing this because of the cable rather than the phone.

If the cable still doesn't sit properly after cleaning and trying another cable, I'd get the charging port checked instead of forcing it in.

Yes, I had this happen once. It turned out there was some lint inside the port. Cleaning it carefully fixed the issue for me.
