I started looking at tablets around Rs. 30,000 and now I am wondering if I should just get an iPad

My main use would be notes, PDFs and watching videos. I do not need anything crazy powerful, just something that stays smooth for a few years.

For that use I would probably go with the iPad if you find a model in your budget. It is pretty easy to live with.
